Space Shuttle…on an Airplane….What???

So this morning was fun, we got to see the Space Shuttle Discovery being flown to DC from Florida to be displayed at a museum near our house. They strapped the shuttle onto a modified 747. It was such a cool thing to see! The girls loved it. We had to rush out of the house because it turned out to be 30 min early so I forgot my zoom lens but luckily I ended up getting some okay pictures. The farther away ones are so you can see how low it was really flying and how close we got to it. Such a cool thing to see in person. Probably won’t get to see anything like it again so we enjoyed it!

Afterwards we went to the park to play with friends and since I had my camera I got pictures….doesn’t happen very often when we go to playgroup at the park! When we were leaving the park we actually got to see the shuttle from the park which we didn’t think we would as it finished it circle and was ready to land. Definitely not as close as when we drove a little bit but still neat!

We had a great Easter weekend. We were able to have a BBQ with friends on Saturday where we had an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids and celebrated our March Madness Bracket among our local friends…where Amber came in 2nd. Then we were able to attend church and have a relaxing afternoon with just our immediate family. The girls looked adorable in their Easter dresses and Emma even let Amber curl her hair for church. They are both getting so big and had so much fun finding eggs and enjoying the treasures in their baskets. Hope you all had a great Easter!!

Cherry Blossoms!

John’s been working long hours so he got to take Friday off and we headed downtown to see the GORGEOUS Cheery Blossoms around downtown DC, especially around the Tidal Basin. It was a perfect day. Sunny, warm, and the girls were SO good the whole time. We walked around the Tidal Basin, got to visit the new Martin Luther King Memorial, took Emma to see the dinosaurs, and surprised John’s dad for lunch. As soon as we got downtown Emma kept saying she wanted to see the dinosaurs…how she knew that there were dinosaurs downtown we’ll never know. So she waited patiently while we did the cheery blossoms before it got too hot (got up to 81 degrees that day!), and then she was a bit apprehensive when she first saw them but then she warmed up and loved every min! It was a perfect family day and we all had a great day!

Family of Five WHAT?!?

So it still feels weird that we are a family of four but now I can say we’re going to be a family of 5! We are extremely excited and can’t wait for the little one to come to our family. The little one is due 9-21-2012 and the only hope is that it chooses not to come on my birthday! September is John’s busy season so it will be a bit stressful during that time but we’re looking forward to it and are so blessed that so far everything is going well. I figured I would post it here before posting it on facebook which will probably happen in the next week or so…so don’t worry you didn’t miss anything on there…I’m just not really a big facebooker or blogger for that matter but I’m working on it! Happy March everyone…I know it is for us!

Missing…

So I doubt many people even read this I rarely update….but I need to vent for a min. I’ve decided I’m having one of those girly days and I say that because as far as I know I don’t know many guys that feel the way I feel right now or would at least admit to feeling it. I miss home…don’t get me wrong I’ve grown to love where I’m at, I have tons of great friends, the girls have tons of friends, we love our house/yard things are really great and I don’t have much to complain about and I’ve been very blessed, but today I miss home or at least my old home. I miss being close to family and the open spaces and the slower pace that I feel when I’m at home. I hate missing all the family things and not being apart of all the craziness. Okay I think I’ve got it out! Luckily I booked our tickets to go out this summer and it can’t come soon enough!

On a happier note, I’m really going to try to keep up with this. I think that’s part of my problem right now. I miss being on top of things the way I used to be. I feel so behind in so many areas of my life and I feel like things just keep getting crazier and I’ll never catch up so I’ve decided to take baby steps to hopefully make my life feel more put together. Wish me luck! (And to you that might read this thanks! Hopefully there will be more to read more often and I can be better at keeping you up to date on our lives. )

So May is going to be broken up into a few separate posts as it was a very exciting month! Most of the month of May we, meaning the Amber and the girls, didn’t spend in Virginia. We few out to Idaho on the 11th of May and spent 10 days in Idaho and then we drove to California, with Amber’s parents (THANKS!!) and met John there where we spent a week with his sister and husband, and then we spent 3.5 days in Utah until we headed back to Idaho! It was a very busy month full of A LOT of traveling!

April

With April came the first signs of spring and all that goes with it. We were able to have a big BBQ with friends from our ward. It was great to have so many kids playing in the yard and the adults just visited for a handful of hours. It was a great time and we’ve looked forward to having more BBQs. April also brought Easter. Emma’s friend had an Easter party, the kids got to decorate eggs, go on an easter hunt, and we all enjoyed a great lunch. Emma had a lot of fun really understood the hunt for the eggs. Easter Sunday we spent with John’s parents up at the lake house and the girls loved finding the eggs and enjoying the Easter candy. Ashleigh is our little eater and it was so much fun seeing her fully enjoy the sugar, I don’t think she’s had so much sugar at one time and she thoroughly enjoyed it. On the way home from the lake we got to stop into a farm that John’s mom knew about and the girls got to see baby chicks, calves, lambs…basically all the farm animals. Emma loved it and it was fun to really see spring in such a fun way on Easter.

Finally at 9 months Ashleigh started crawling. YAY!! I know for some people don’t want their kids to be mobile but for me it makes life easier. All Ashleigh wanted to do was move around and play with different things so I had to be there moving her but once she started crawling we were all happier as she could get where she wanted to be! Other than that exciting news the month was filled with the every day things! We love our lives with two little girls!

We’re into the New Year

Out Jan. and Feb weren’t too exciting but we did have a few snow storms. So we had fun shoveling and playing in the snow and the rest of the time we spent inside staying warm. In Feb. some friends invited us to go to a Wizards game. We hadn’t been to a pro basketball game since we were dating so it was fun to go to that and have a night out without the kiddos.

Can’t believe I have to go all the way back to 2010 to get caught up….ahhh!! So I guess here’s our Christmas in July.

Our December was so much fun! We got to go to Idaho and spend about 10 days with Amber’s family, we went to the cabin with EVERYONE, it’s been a while since we’ve got to be all together as a family and it was great to spend time with everyone. After Idaho we went up to John’s family’s lake house at Deep Creek Lake in Maryland. It was a great transition especially for Emma since she had just left all her cousins and then she was surrounded by her Aunts and Uncles. Plus she got two Christmas, what more could a 2 year old want. It was really fun this year with her as she got opening presents and Santa but even more fun was the time we spent learning the Christmas story and hearing her talk about Baby Jesus and his Mommy Mary. We have a Fisher Price Nativity set and she loved telling the story and having it throughout the season. It was great! We just love the Holiday Season filled with family!! YAY!
